Betfair Ends New Jersey Online Poker

Betfair has announced that it is pulling its online poker platform from New Jersey, instead opting to focus on slots and table games. The company has been making a steady profit off slots and table game play.

Unable to break into New Jersey’s online poker market, Betfair has decided to go the less talked-about route and focus on slots and table games.

The company announced it will no longer offer online poker in the state and ceased poker games on December 1.

Betfair is the second site to stop offering poker in New Jersey after Ultimate Bet left the state entirely. The state’s online poker market has been dominated by PartyPoker, BorgataPoker.com and WSOP.com.

Betfair’s poker revenue, meanwhile, has been almost non-existent despite offering what was seen as an attractive “rakeback” and rewards and bonus system.

However, slots and tables games have proven lucrative for several sites. Betfair had profits of $855,869 from its online casino games in October alone and the total casino win through the first 10 months of 2014 was $6,677,288.

There are currently seven sites—counting Betfair—in New Jersey offering slots and table games, but not poker.

Betfair has originally been partnered with Atlantic City’s Trump Plaza casino, but was forced to find a new partner when the casino closed. The company briefly teamed with Caesars Entertainment before moving to the Golden Nugget Atlantic City.
