Betfair Looks to Stay Online in New Jersey

With Trump Plaza announcing it may close in September, Betfair is suddenly faced with losing its online casino partner in New Jersey. The company, however, will likely to continue to operate under the Trump Entertainment license, which still operates the Trump Taj Mahal (l.) in Atlantic City.

What’s in a partner’s name?

When Trump Plaza announced it would close in September, its online gambling partner Betfair might have been forced to close up shop. But Betfair—and hopefully state regulators—say the company was partnered with Trump Entertainment not just Trump Plaza.

And Trump Entertainment still operates the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City.

Online gambling operators must partner with an Atlantic City casino to operate in the state. Betfair operates Betfaircasino.com with Trump Plaza and GameAccount.

According to reports, Betfair officials have been talking with state regulators to stay open under the partnership with Trump Entertainment and its online site should not be disrupted.

Betfair’s poker platform has not been doing well, but the company has reported about $3.7 million in revenue from casino games. It should be noted that the company’s servers are actually located at the Taj.

The Taj Mahal has also partnered with Ultimate Gaming.

In another matter, Betfair announced it has adopted Netverify from online and mobile credentials management company Jumio for its customer verification and on-boarding solution.

“By adding Jumio’s Netverify into the customer verification process, we are making life quicker and easier for our customers, minimizing fall-out from lengthy verification processes and removing costly man hours where we have to receive and review documents manually,” Phillip Rivers, Betfair’s head of registrations, payments and fraud said.
