BetMGM Takes Share from DC Rivals

BetMGM unveiled its mobile DC sportsbook in June as part of its partnership with the Washington Nationals.

The sportsbook, while third out of three, still took market share from both competitors, William Hill and GambetDC, according to Legal Sports Report.

BetMGM’s success is another blow to GambetDC, operated for the Lottery by Intralot. Its odds cannot compete with its rivals even though it covers much more territory. BetMGM and William Hill are limited to the two-block radius from the venues where their partners play.

BetMGM was the only operator that saw its handle share grow in July.

The operator finished third with a 5 percent share. GambetDC accounted for 16.8 percent of the market, losing almost a percentage point. William Hill’s handle share dropped 2.2 percent, but the sportsbook still accounted for more than 78 percent of the market.

BetMGM operated a mobile-only sportsbook as the physical version is not yet open at Nationals Park.

FanDuel Sportsbook is also coming to the district, though there is no expected launch date. FanDuel submitted its application in early June.
