Betting Limit Increase for B.C. Lottery May Have Been Improper

Michael Graydon, former top regulator in British Columbia, granted a betting increase for all casinos in the province a short time before being hired by a company running casinos there, according to information that came to light last week.

A betting increase for the British Columbia Lottery Corp. by its former head Michael Graydon, may be have been improper at the time because he was at the same time negotiating a job offer with Paragon Gaming, based in Las Vegas.

Paragon owns the Edgewater Casino in Vancouver, one of the casinos that were affected when Graydon announced the increase in betting limits. Graydon joined the Paragon Company a week after he left the lottery and is now president of Parq Vancouver, an affiliate of the company.

Graydon’s action led to increased profits for both affected casinos and for the lottery, which oversees them. The company points out, however, that Graydon did not act alone and it took a series of decisions at many levels of government for the bet limit to be changed.
