The government of the Canary Islands is calling for bidders to build a second casino in La Oliva on the island of Fuerteventura. Eligible bidders must be limited companies with a minimum share capital of €3 million (US$3.4 million).
In 2003, the community approved a total of three casinos. Only one is open, the Grand Casino Antigua in the Hotel Elba Carlota, which opened in 2013.
Potential investors have a month to participate in the tender. According to Games Magazine Brasil, the winning bidder can offer a bar and restaurant, a performance center, convention facilities and exhibition halls, a swimming pool, gymnasium, shops and a four-star or above hotel.
Ancillary services “must be located in the same building or architectural complex” and “may belong to or be operated by persons or companies other than the owner” of the casino license, according to the requirements.
The regional executive also plans to authorize a third casino resort in the town of Pájara.
