Bill Would Allow Sports Betting at Arizona’s Tribal Casinos

Arizona state Senator Sonny Borelli (l.) has introduced a bill that would allow sports betting. But only gaming tribes would be able to offer it.

Senate Bill 1163 by Senator Sonny Borelli— if passed— would make Arizona the ninth state to legalize sports betting. But it would only be allowed in tribal casinos.

Betting would be allowed on both professional and amateur sports. Borelli’s bill is bogged down, which he thinks is a shame because the state is missing out on making money on contests such as March Madness, which he notes will inspire $8 billion in wagers. “[S]o it’s like we’re missing out on this, but most importantly the tribes are missing out on this,” said the senator last week.
