Biloxi Moving Toward Blind Tiger Construction

The Blind Tiger, a popular seafood restaurant, moved another step closer to becoming a reality at Harrah’s Gulf Coast Biloxi casino as the city council held its first reading of an ordinance to amend the casino's master plan. The council will vote on July 19 whether to approve the lease and allow construction to start.

The Biloxi, Mississippi city council recently held its first reading of a proposed ordinance to amend the master plan of Harrah’s Gulf Coast Biloxi casino to accommodate the proposed Blind Tiger beachfront seafood restaurant and lounge. The reading is necessary to allow the venue to be built on the west side of the casino’s Great Lawn south of U.S. 90. The Biloxi Planning Commission previously approved the plans.

The proposed 3,240 square foot facility would offer numerous decks overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, built on a 50,000 square foot tract of land with parking and green space. Chef in Thomas Genin has been hired to oversee the menu and kitchen.

Wayne Hengen, attorney for the owners, said, “The lease is signed and dated. Let’s get this project going.” Hengen noted he frequently visits the Blind Tiger in Bay St. Louis. “I see a lot of Biloxi people over there,” he said.

Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich said the city would prefer the restaurant have the look of old Biloxi, and the developers have been open to that idea. “We want them to move forward,” Gilich said.

A vote to approve the lease and allow construction to start could happen at the next council meeting on July 19.
