Birmingham Casino to Close

Malaysian gaming operator Genting is reportedly planning to close one of its casinos in Birmingham, England and may do so as early as January. The shutdown could mean the loss of 200 local jobs.

Genting UK’s Star City Casino in Birmingham is expected to close in January, reports the Birmingham Mail. The casino, which opened in 2003, “operates in the shadow of our Resorts World facility,” a £150 million (US$186 million) complex, next to the NEC Arena that opened in 2015, according to a statement from the company.

More than 200 employees have been informed they may lose their jobs, according to the Mail. “Our staff remain a priority and there are many opportunities for them in our facilities across the region and our estate nationally,” the statement said.
