Boutique Hotel in Works at Binion’s

Binion’s, formerly the Horseshoe, is a Downtown Las Vegas landmark, and hasn’t had a hotel since the old one closed 10 years ago in the midst of the recession. That will change this summer with the debut of an 81-room offering harkening back to the property’s earliest days as the Hotel Apache (l.).

Downtown Las Vegas’ Binion’s Gambling Hall is getting back into the hotel business.

The iconic Fremont Street casino, known as Binion’s Horseshoe in its 20th century heyday, hasn’t had a hotel since 2009, when new owner TLC Casino Enterprises closed its 365-room tower in the teeth of the Great Recession.

“It’s huge for us, to get back into the hotel business,” said General Manager Tim Lager.

An 81-room boutique offering called Hotel Apache and featuring vintage furnishings and decorations is slated to open this summer, inspired by the original Hotel Apache that occupied the site in the 1930s and ’40s.

“We’re taking it back in time,” Lager said.

The upgrade also includes a 6,500-square-foot rotating bar called Whiskey Licker Up. It will be elevated above Fremont Street and offer a unique view of the Fremont Street Experience from a glass ceiling and large glass walls that can retract in warmer weather. The bar also will feature live entertainment and DJs.
