Bowling Trumps Bets at South Point

South Point’s new championship-caliber bowling arena rolled a strike over the weekend, welcoming the GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling to mark its grand opening. The $35 million venue is already booked for 100 dates in 2015.

Hotel also has an equestrian center

The newest attraction in Las Vegas has nothing to do with casinos, nightclubs, Ferris wheels or celebrity chefs. The $35 million entertainment complex that opened last week at South Point features a championship bowling center on the second floor and an equestrian center on the bottom floor.

The 60-lane, 90,000-square-foot South Point Bowling Plaza opened by hosting the GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling. It’s already booked for 100 dates in 2015, General Manager Ryan Growney told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“Between the horses and the bowling center, it doesn’t get any more unique than this,” Growney said.

Also coming to the center are the USBC Women’s Championships in 2016 and the mixed-gender USBC Open Championships in 2017. Growney said the bowlers will spend an average of $200 per day on hotel accommodations, meals and other amenities.

“That’s where the return comes in,” he said.

South Point will continue to operate its separate public bowling venue, which is open 24 hours a day, according to Vegasinc.com.
