Boyd Gaming Corporation recently announced a million expansion at Delta Downs Racetrack Casino Hotel in Vinton, Louisiana. The project will feature a new 167-room hotel tower, redesign of the 200 existing rooms, updated food and beverage facilities and an expanded special events center. Construction will begin in September.
Boyd Gaming President and Chief Executive Officer Keith Smith said,
“Delta Downs is extremely popular with our guests, and demand exceeds what we can accommodate with our current facility. With 370 rooms and suites, Delta Downs will be better positioned to meet this growing demand, giving us the opportunity to extend our unique brand of hospitality to more visitors than ever before.”
Smith added, “Delta Downs is one of our company’s strongest performing properties, serving one of the most economically vibrant regions of the country. This project is consistent with our ongoing strategy of diversifying and strengthening our non-gaming amenities, and we believe it will deliver a solid return on investment for our shareholders.”
Stifel Nicolaus Capital Markets gaming analyst Steven Wieczynski stated, “We have held the belief that Delta Downs stood to benefit most by the addition of new casino resort supply in nearby Lake Charles, Louisiana as more patrons making the trek from the primary Houston feeder market meant more cars passing Delta Downs.”
Wieczynski added Boyd Gaming’s plan is a “prudent decision,” with increased focus on Lake Charles, where the Golden Nugget and Pinnacle Entertainment’s L’Auberge are located. Vinton is 120 miles east of Houston and just west of Lake Charles.
Boyd operates 22 casinos in eight states, including three resorts in downtown Las Vegas and the Coast casino brands in the locals Las Vegas market.
