Boyd Applies For Kansas Historic Horse Racing License

Las Vegas-based Boyd Gaming recently applied to the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission for approval to build and operate a $160 million historic horse racing (HHR) gaming facility in Park City, Kansas. Boyd and its partner in the venture, Laham Development of Wichita, hope to develop the Diamond Jo venue near Hartman Arena, off of I-135.

The facility would feature a casino floor with about 1,000 HHR machines, a steakhouse, sports bar and grill, conference areas and the first Amazon Go store in Kansas.

Boyd Gaming President and Chief Executive Officer Keith Smith said, “For more than a decade, Boyd Gaming has been an important part of the south-central Kansas community as the owner and operator of Kansas Star Casino. Today, we propose taking that relationship to the next level with our application for Diamond Jo Park City, our vision for an exciting new entertainment destination serving the Wichita metropolitan area.”

Smith added the facility would create hundreds of new jobs. In addition, he said Boyd Gaming would donate $1 million a year to local nonprofits that provide services to local veterans plus $250,000 annually for problem gambling treatment resources.

He added, “We look forward to sharing more information with the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission and our neighbors throughout south-central Kansas as the bidding process unfolds.”
