Boyd Gaming co-founder Bill Boyd has stepped down from his role as executive chairman effective May 4, the company announced.

Boyd will retain the title of chairman emeritus, but will no longer have a seat on the company’s board of directors. He and Marianne Johnson had served as co-executives since 2021—Johnson will now assume the full role.

The company was founded in 1975 by Boyd and his late father, Sam. The California Hotel and Casino downtown was its first property, and Boyd Gaming now operates more than 25 properties across 10 states.

Boyd’s other notable Las Vegas holdings include the Orleans, Main Street Station, Sam’s Town, Suncoast and Gold Coast.
