Brazil Senate May Create Anti-Gaming Group

Brazilian senators have passed a motion to create the Parliamentary Front Against Gambling. One of the leaders of the group is Senator Eduardo Girão, who said he thought the vote indicates there are enough senators to block legalization of gaming in the country.

The only vote against the measure came from Senator Angelo Coronel, who declared, “We can no longer live in this modern world without having the legalization of gaming in Brazil.”

A bill to legalize land-based casinos, online gaming, horse racing, slot machines, bingo and jogo de bicho, Bill 442/1991, was passed by the Chamber of Deputies in February. The senate will soon consider the bill.

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro has warned he will veto the bill if it is passed.
