Brazilian Lawmakers Push Legal Gaming

Brazilian lawmakers recently met to show support for a bill that would be a next step towards legalizing and regulating gaming in the country.

The leader of Brazil’s Tourism Commission, Deputy João Carlos Bacelar, in a meeting with the head of that country’s Chamber of Deputies, President of the Chamber Arthur Lira, emphasized the importance to the country’s economy of creating a regulatory framework for gaming. Five other lawmakers attended the meeting that set legislative priorities related to tourism. They showed support for Bill 442 / 91, which is nearing coming to a vote in Plenary, which is the chamber’s highest deliberative body.

Bacelar said, “The country has lost R$376.6 billion since the worsening of the pandemic and can no longer do without revenue from gambling.” Brazil has lost jobs and seen sales fall 59 percent.

The congressman touted the importance to the economy of approving the Regulatory Framework for Gaming in Brazil (Bill 442/91).

After the meeting Bacelar commented, “The meeting was extremely positive. We have a sensible president, who stressed the importance of public policies to promote tourism and encouraged the continuation of the work of the commission. We have a great ally.”
