Brazil’s Prioritized License Window Shuts After 113 Requests

The Aug. 20 deadline for prioritized license applications passed this week, with 113 operators submitting their requests ahead of the window shutting.

Those operators who applied by the end of the 90-day initial window of preference, which opened in May, will guarantee their applications are processed by the expected legal market launch date of Jan. 1 2025.

The final ordinances outlining regulations were published on July 31, including the much-anticipated Normative Ordinance No 1,207 which clarified which online games would be allowed, with 108 of the 113 applications made between then and the deadline.

Neil Montgomery says the huge number of applications will be encouraging for the Brazilian government, telling iGB: “This is confirmation that the Brazilian government has done a good job in attracting as many players to the regulated market as possible. They will certainly be on the right track to meet their tax revenue targets.”
