The Indiana Gaming Commission recently released its proposed regulations for sports betting, which was signed into law May 8. Following a public comment period, the earliest the commission could approve the rules would be September 1. Brick-and-mortar casinos could open sportsbooks on that date, but mobile/online betting will not be available for several months.
The new law does not require bettors to sign up at a licensed casino for online betting. Only in-state wagering will be allowed. Critics note that the IGC may be able to block bettors from online platforms if they’re located within a sports arena and attempting to bet on live action.
Other regulations would ban bets from players, coaches and other specified participants.
In preparation for opening sports books, Harrah’s Hoosier Park and Indiana Grand Racing & Casino are now taking applications for related positions. Indiana Grand Senior Vice President and General Manager Ron Baumann said, “As we prepare our properties for both sports wagering and live table games, we have opportunities available for sportsbook ticket writers, sportsbook supervisors and even more jobs in various other departments. We’re looking for energetic, talented people to join our team and be a part launching brand new products to Central Indiana and beyond.”
In addition, the two venues are taking applications for training classes for dealer and live dealer positions in preparation for launching live table games in January 2020. Applicants will be paid for taking the classes, which will last from six to 12 weeks and include blackjack, poker, roulette and craps.
Harrah’s Hoosier Park’s Senior Vice President and General Manager Trent McIntosh said, “We’re bringing hundreds of new jobs to Central Indiana and providing the training and tools necessary to be successful as a table games dealer. These are well-paying jobs on top of a robust benefits program and culture built on superior external and internal service.”
