All international gambling operators will need a license to take bets in the UK under a new act, which has been approved by both Parliament and Buckingham Palace.
The point of consumption regulatory framework for remote gambling is outlined in the Gambling Act, which was passed by the UK parliament in April.
All gambling operators accepting UK bets will be required to obtain a remote gambling license from the Gambling Commission.
The POC rules will be activated once the UK government adopts secondary legislation to implement the provisions of the new Act, expected by August.
New licensing conditions around the manufacture, supply, installation and adaption of gambling software will not take effect until January 2015.
Critics of the bill say the rules will lead to more illegal gambling at unlicensed sites. Most international online gambling sites are licensed in the jurisdictions where they operate, and not in each country where they accept bets.
