It was better late than never for the Cascades Casino Delta in British Columbia, Canada which opened September 29 after a two-year delay. The $99 million facility was originally set to open in 2020 but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and supply chain issues.
The casino, owned by Gateway Casinos & Entertainment, is the first new project by the company since the advent of the pandemic. Gateway also has properties in Alberta, Ontario, and Vancouver.
Now, however, the casino is open 24 hours a day and features an approximate 160,000 square feet of entertainment. The gaming area encompasses 42,000 square feet and houses 500 slot machines, “stadium-style” gaming, and 18 live table games. There are no poker tables, however.
The planned hotel is also not completed. It is expected to be ready later in the year. The five-story Delta by Marriott hotel will have up to 124 rooms and include a “luxurious” day spa, resort-style outdoor pool and hot tub, state of the art fitness center, “sophisticated bespoke design” and parking with allocated spots for electric vehicles.
Also part of the resort will be signature restaurants by Gateway. They will include The Buffet, Summit Bar and Match Eatery & Public House, which features a multi-season patio and live music. Match also has the Bud Room, a Budweiser-branded party space for up to 30 people, with pool tables and bars, that can be rented for a $400 deposit and $1,500 minimum spend.
There were several speakers at the grand opening, including Jill McKnight, executive director of Delta Chamber of Commerce. She said the casino and hotel will draw more people to Delta. It is already estimated 600 jobs will be created.
“That’s exciting, and we’re very happy about this facility bringing more people here,” McKnight said. “And we hope to turn that into further investment, whether it’s people visiting shops and other businesses here, overnight stays – the community needs this additional hotel. This facility will also offer additional space for events, which is also needed.”
