Bulgaria Party Targets Lottery Tickets

An alliance of parties in the Bulgarian parliament appear bent on limiting if not driving underground the lottery. The United Patriots parliamentary alliance proposes drastically limiting the places where lottery tickets can be sold.

The United Patriots parliamentary alliance in Bulgaria has targeted lottery tickets with the goal of limiting where they can be purchased.

Currently that’s in most Bulgarian retails, including street vendors and grocery stores. United Patriots member Valery Simeonov proposes to limit sales to specialized gaming parlors and to severely limit advertising for their sale.

Support for the measure appears to include the other major parties. Gaming has dramatically increased in Bulgaria in the last few years and according to the Center for Investigating Democracy it makes up 3 percent of the country’s GDP.
