Cabbies Boycotting Strip Resorts

Taxi drivers in Las Vegas say they’re struggling to compete with cheaper ride-share services like Uber and Lyft. They’re looking for the casinos to support them.

Cabbies Boycotting Strip Resorts

Las Vegas’ taxi drivers have declared war on the ride-share companies they say are killing their livelihoods.

A grassroots group calling itself Vegas Drivers Unite says its members are boycotting several Strip resorts in an effort to fight back against competition from Uber, Lyft and similar services they say are undercutting them on fares.

Earlier this year, the Taxi Cab Authority released numbers showing a decline in taxi ridership the last three years equivalent to the loss of millions of dollars.

Local news outlets citing VDU’s website say the group would not be picking up fares at New York-New York Hotel and Casino during select periods for the rest of July.

Last month, the group said they boycotted the Bellagio and next month they plan to boycott Mandalay Bay and Delano.
