Caesars Entertainment officials said the company plans to open a temporary casino in Danville, Virginia next year, one year before the $650 million Caesars Virginia casino resort is expected to open, in 2024.
In a recent third-quarter earnings call with investors, Caesars Chief Executive Officer Thomas Reeg said, “We’ve got temporary casinos in Columbus, Nebraska and Danville, Virginia, that will hit next year.”
The temporary and permanent casinos will be located on the former site off the Dan River textile mill at Schoolfield. The HeadWaters Resort & Casino in Norfolk and the Hard Rock Bristol already have opened temporary venues.
A groundbreaking was held for Caesars Virginia in August. The facility will offer 1,300 slot machines, 85 live table games and 24 electronic table games, plus a sportsbook, a World Series of Poker-themed poker room, 2,500-seat concert venue and 40,000 square feet of convention and conference space. It’s anticipated to generate up to $38 million in tax revenue for the city.
Caesars Entertainment’s partner in Caesars Virginia is EBCI Holdings, owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. Caesars currently manages the tribe’s two Harrah’s casinos in North Carolina.
