Caesars Atlantic City Pier Dispute May Move to Bankruptcy Court

A dispute between Caesars Atlantic City and Philadelphia developer Bart Blatstein (l.) may be moved to federal bankruptcy court after a motion by Blatstein’s attorneys. Caesars disputes Blatstein’s contention that he purchased the leases for the ocean-front mall The Pier Shops at Caesars. Blatstein’s attorneys asked for the move since Caesars Entertainment is in bankruptcy.

Lawyers for Philadelphia developer Bart Blatstein have petitioned to move Caesars Atlantic City challenge of his acquiring leases for The Pier Shops oceanfront mall to bankruptcy court.

Caesars Atlantic City has challenged Blatstein’s acquiring of the mall’s leases saying he did so without approval of the casino, which owns the mall. That challenge came in Atlantic County Superior Court, but a hearing in the case was cancelled after Blatstein’s filing.

Blatstein’s Tower Investments, Inc., Pier Renaissance, the company which purchased the Pier’s lease in November, and Blatstein himself argued the case should be heard in bankruptcy court because the Pier Shops property is connected to a company undergoing ongoing bankruptcy proceedings.

The Caesars Entertainment Operating Co. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on January 15.
