Caesars Palace To Update Colosseum

Caesars Entertainment has announced plans to renovate the Colosseum at Caesars Palace on the Las Vegas and to promote the new technical and design upgrades with a new partner, Live Nation. The Colosseum will reopen in the fall.

The renovations will include a lift system that can lower and raise the floor in front of the stage to create different seating options. This unprecedented modular seat will allow for the creation of standing space in front of the stage without interfering with the view of seated guests. This is similar to what is offered at Zappos Theater.

A new sound system, moving light fixtures and an LED video wall will also be added.

The Colosseum opened in 2003 with 4,300 seats and has been operated by AEG Presents. It presented a series of concert residences for artists such as Elton John, Cher, Shania Twain and others. A residency is like a concert series, but is performed at one location.

Last year Caesars didn’t renew AEG’s contract, and moved to partner with Live Nation. When Celine Dion’s current residency ends June 8, that will create a hiatus that can be used for the renovation.

Caesars president of entertainment Jason Gastwirth commented, “More than anything it’s about our view of what the venue needed now given the evolution of the market,” He added, “Remember, 15 years ago when Celine started all this, this was unique. Now as we talk about residencies we’re proud to say this is a universal term everyone in the industry is talking about. So we’re using this opportunity to do all this switchover at one time with the close of Celine’s residency, shutting down over the summer, which is a big commitment on our end, but necessary for us to get to that next era.”

He added, “While we recognize the Colosseum is already top of its class, these changes will allow for more flexibility in our booking process and give us the opportunity to thrill fans with new and diverse offerings.”
