Officials at Horseshoe Southern Indiana announced its new $85 million land-based casino will be rebranded and reopen in 2020 as Caesars Southern Indiana. The riverboat will remain open during construction of the new one-story facility which will include a sportsbook.

Brad Seigel, Horseshoe Southern Indiana senior vice president and general manager, said casino guests will enjoy an “entirely new experience.” He stated, “Enhancements to the guest experience will include many new sights and sounds, but what will be familiar to them is our friendly team members, always ready to make their visit memorable.”
The new one-story casino will feature a 100,000 square foot gaming floor with updated slots, table games and poker; the Volt Lounge with live entertainment and craft cocktails; the Juno Bar in the center of the gaming floor; a new VIP lounge with an outdoor balcony and high-limit gaming area; and nonsmoking areas.
In its 20 year history, Horseshoe celebrated its 20th anniversary in November 2018. In its 20 years, Horseshoe Southern Indiana won more than $5.2 billion from gamblers and generated more than $1.1 billion in state gaming and admission taxes, according to the Courier Journal.
New competition from Churchill Downs’ $65 million Derby City Gaming facility, which opened last September with 900 historic racing machines, has had an impact. In October 2018, the first full month of gambling at Derby City, Horseshoe Southern Indiana took in $143.7 million compared to $164.3 million in October 2017. Gross winnings declined by slightly more than $2 million, the Courier Journal previously reported.
