California Board Approves Casino Relocation

The Tulare County, California Board of Supervisors has approved a Memorandum of Understanding and Intergovernmental Agreement with the Tule River Indian tribe that supports the tribe’s efforts to move its Eagle Mountain Casino from its original location on the reservation to property in Porterville near Highway 190.

The MOU commits the tribe to providing funding for county programs, services and road improvements.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has put a parcel of land next to the Porterville Airport into trust for the tribe. Tribal Chairman Neil Peyron hailed the agreement, saying, “The Tribe has remained committed to ensuring the relocation project is a project that not only contributes to the success of the Tribe, but also to the surrounding community.”

The project includes a casino, hotel, event center, entertainment lounge, convention space, sports bar, buffet and food court, tertiary water treatment plan (built in conjunction with the city) and fire station.
