California Casino Expansion Opens With 1,000 More Slots

Southern California’s Viejas Casino & Resort has opened a new gaming floor with 1,000 slot machines and 15,000 square feet of additional space, plus a hotel tower with 128 rooms. The tribe celebrated with a ribbon cutting attended by several thousand.

The Viejas Casino & Resort in San Diego County, California last week opened the new gaming floor expansion, which includes 1,000 new slot machines and a new hotel tower. The construction took about a year.

The additional 15,000 square feet of gaming floor includes a promotion stage. An escalator bank will carry patrons to the new hotel tower with 128 rooms.

Thousands attended the official ribbon-cutting at which Tribal Chairman Robert Welch declared, “This marks the first step in our most ambitious plan of growth to date. The ongoing development of Viejas continues to resonate in many positive ways for the San Diego area, both economically and in establishing a strong foundation for the future of our culture.”

Viejas General Manager Chris Kelley added, “This enhancement of Viejas Casino is the result of the hard work and commitment of hundreds of team members and skilled workers, dedicated to producing an outstanding experience for all of our guests.”

The hotel, which will have 109 deluxe rooms and VIP suites will have a separate ribbon-cutting ceremony at the end of the month.
