California Governor Jerry Brown has signed a new tribal state gaming compact with the Karuk tribe, the Golden State’s second largest tribe, that will allow it to build a casino in Yreka, the state’s northernmost city, but with additional language addressing worker’s compensation.
According to a spokesman for the governor, “The recent amendment simply addresses the worker’s compensation program required to be in place and amends the 2014 compact to make the language conform with more recent compacts.”
The 2014 compact allowed the tribe to build a casino, the Rain Rock Casino, but it had asked for an amended compact to add language that is now common in new gaming compacts in the state.
