California Tribe Buys Land for New Casino

The Pinoleville Pomo Nation has purchased nearly nine acres in Ukiah, California for a proposed $50 million casino and hotel. The land is a former auto dealership with three buildings.

The Pinoleville Pomo Nation of Northern California has purchased an 8.8-acre former auto dealership site in Ukiah with three existing buildings, for its proposed 90,000 square foot casino.

The tribe had formerly had a lease-purchase option on the property for five years, and when the option expired the land went on sale. In the meantime, the tribe secured funding through the Indian Land Capital Co. LLC of Minnesota, to buy the land for $2.24 million. The land was once part of the tribe’s original Rancheria dating back to 1911, but the land was sold.

The tribe announced in 2009 that it planned to build a $50 million casino and hotel on the land. Its tribal state gaming compact, signed with Governor Jerry Brown, authorizes it to have up to 900 slot machines. It also has a memorandum of understanding with Mendocino County on traffic and other impacts.
