Viejas Casino has opened the Willows Hotel & Spa, an adults-only resort within the resort a 159-room, five-story hotel. About 350 attended the invitation-only ribbon cutting last week for the San Diego county-based tribe.
Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Chairman Robert Welch, Jr. declared “We aimed to create a distinction between us and everyone else,” he said, “So, you better put your sunglasses on, because the future of Viejas has never been brighter.”
During a tour guests were shown a complex that included 700 square foot and 600 SF suites. They noshed on bites at the Local Kitchen & Lounge specializing in farm to table cuisine.
The hotel is the third the casino has opened since 2011. The gaming side of the casino was also expanded, adding 300 slot machines and 12,000 additional square footage.
Six San Diego-area casinos, out of ten, are either just beginning or in the midst or end of expansions.
