California Tribe Seeks Support to Relocate Casino

A delegation composed of tribal and city council representatives will travel to the nation’s capital to consult with Rep. Kevin McCarthy (l.) to solicit his support for the Tule River Tribe of California who want to relocate their casino near the city of Porterville. The actual decision for putting the land into trust will be made by the Department of the Interior.

California Tribe Seeks Support to Relocate Casino

The Tule River Tribe of California and a member of the Porterville city council will be traveling to Washington D.C. to lobby Congressman Kevin McCarthy’s support for relocating the Eagle Mountain Casino from its current location to near the Porterville Municipal Airport.

The $200 million casino would have 105,000 square feet of gaming space, a 250-room hotel, dining and lounges, a 29,000 SF convention center and 1,700 seat concert area, among other amenities. This would require putting 40 acres into trust for the tribe.

The tribe has already initiated a land into trust request to the Department of the Interior, but the tribe and city want to rack up as much support for that action as possible. Since two members of the city council have strongly supported the tribe, the representative’s legislative analyst wanted to have them meeting with him.
