California Tribe Tops off Second Casino Hotel

California’s Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians is halfway to completion of the second hotel for the Viejas Casino and Resort. The second tower will add 104 rooms.

The Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians of San Diego County, California recently celebrated the “topping off” ceremony for the second hotel for the Viejas Casino and Resort.

A new tribal council that took office in January, and included Chairman Robert J. Welch Jr. celebrated the ceremony.

The new project is adding a five story-luxury hotel with 104 rooms, a ballroom, meeting facilities, and the expansion of the casino floor with 500 more slot machines.

Welch was previously vice chairman for six years. At the ceremony he declared, “In my six years as vice-chairman I learned a lot,” Welch said. “We have accomplished a lot including earning our Four-Diamond Viejas Casino & Resort status, the award-winning Grove Steakhouse, and increasing our property to better serve our guests. We will continue to support our neighbors such as the San Diego Salvation Army at large, the San Diego Food Bank and the community of Alpine. These were the people who were there for our tribal members when I was a child and we don’t forget those who have been there for us when needed.”
