California Tribe Won’t Budge on Casino Move

Northern California’s Redding Rancheria Tribe is standing firm on plans to move the Win-River Casino from its reservation to land purchased in Redding. Tribal Chairman Jack Potter Jr. told critics: “We are the original people and we have suffered enough.”

The Redding Rancheria Tribe of Northern California is doubling down on its plans to relocate its Win-River Casino from the reservation to Strawberry Fields in Redding. At a recent council meeting, Tribal Chairman Jack Potter Jr. declared, “We are the original people and we have suffered enough.”

Potter was reacting to speakers from Speak Up Shasta and neighbors who complained about possible traffic problems and noise form the casino. However, Potter said that because of the complaints that the tribe would not be building a planned amphitheater.

He said, “We hear and understand about the potential of noise and light.”

The city council previously voted to oppose the casino relocation.
