Californians Turn From Internet Cafes to Online Gaming

Some residents of a southern California county are switching from internet cafes, which are being shut down by police, to internet gaming, which is a federal crime.

Many residents of Kern County, California, prevented from one illegal activity, internet cafes, appear to be turning to another, online gaming.

According to Phillip Walker of the Internet Café Association of California, interviewed by Pechanga.net, “It’s all over the place that you can do online gaming.” He said it’s a matter of going onto the site, getting an ID and opening up a real money account.

However, the FBI warns that you shouldn’t do that. It points out that transferring money to gambling sites is illegal.

Walker contends that so-called “games of skill” online don’t clearly violate federal law.
