California’s Rincon tribe, in partnership with Harrah’s will unveil a 0 million expansion in April, along with a new name: Harrah’s Resort Southern California.
The resort casino, located in San Diego County near Valley Center, will, after the expansion opens, including its second hotel tower, be the four largest hotel resort in the county. It will also be the largest Indian casino resort in the state in terms of hotel rooms.
The tribe allowed its name to be removed from the name of the resort in order to help market it as a world class facility, according to Rincon Tribal Chairman Bo Mazzetti, quoted by the San Diego Union Tribune. “This was a business decision made by the full council,” he explained. “If we’re going to do what we set out to do, which is to be a world-class facility and attract people from Russia, China, the United States, you have to have something attractive, something that people will understand. How many people are familiar with Valley Center or Rincon?” he said.
The hotel expansion was needed because room occupancy has been near 97 percent year round. Pool parties are so popular that customers are frequently turned away. The last major renovation was in 2004.
The $160 million was spent on a new 21-story tower, a convention center and an entertainment center that will hold 2,200 concertgoers, among many other amenities.
