The union representing casino workers at NagaWorld have asked the Cambodian government to include them in an economic stimulus program designed to support people left unemployed by the Covid-19 crisis.

Employees of NagaWorld in Phnom Penh have been out of work since April 1.

The program is said to provide a payment of US$40 per month to workers that have been affected by the closures, reported CamboJA News.

According to the media outlet, cited by GGRAsia and a human rights websites, a petition was submitted to the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training by the union. The property is run by Hong Kong-listed NagaCorp Ltd.

The government has allotted US$100 million to the subsidy program, which covers employees of factories and businesses. Workers from the entertainment industry, including casinos, have been excluded, noted the workers’ union.
