Cambodia’s almost 200 casinos began to reopen last week after getting the OK from Prime Minister Hun Sen (l.). All gaming venues in the country must meet stringent Covid-19 safety measures set forth by the Ministry of Health.

Cambodian casinos, which closed April 1 due to the Covid-19 outbreak, were permitted to begin reopening July 7, provided they meet stringent Covid-19 safety measures approved by the Ministry of Health.

According to Inside Asian Gaming, casinos got the all-clear on July 3, following a recent stabilization in Covid-19 cases in the Southeast Asian nation.

Hong Kong-listed NagaCorp Ltd., operator of the NagaWorld gaming complex in Phnom Penh, reopened its VIP table games and slot machine business on July 8, after a technical inspection by the ministry.

All employees and visitors arriving at NagaWorld will have to undergo a temperature check before entering and also will have to wear face masks. There will also to be a limit of “three sitting players per table,” according to the company, a plan that will reduce table capacity to 43 percent.

NagaCorp also has cut its slot capacity in half “by switching off every other slot position,” in order to ensure safe distancing between players.

The group said it has established five “isolation rooms” at NagaWorld as a prevention measure in case of any health issues among its guests.

In related news, Hong Kong-listed Century Entertainment International Holdings, formerly Amax, plans to relocate gaming tables under its operation in Sihanoukville to a new location. According to a July 6 filing, Century Chairman and CEO Ng Man Sun said he would be moving his Cambodian casino operations from the Sunshine Bay Hotel Sihanoukville to the newly opened Ming Guan Hotel.
