Former Macau junket operator Century Entertainment International Holdings Ltd., which just announced a five-year deal to operate gaming tables at a casino in Cambodia, is walking back an earlier statement that it will try to bring Chinese customers to the gaming hall.
According to Asia Gaming Brief, the junket runner was quick to acknowledge its goof, which was sure to displease Chinese authorities. In a filing, it said, “Based on the historical operating results of the new gaming table business since November 2022, PRC (People’s Republic of China) customers are not the new gaming table business’ major patrons.”
Also in the filing, Century pointed out that PRC customers comprised only 4.7 percent of foreign tourists to Cambodia last year. The firm will run eight new mass-market gaming tables at the casino in Dara Sakor Province. Century said it “sees attractive potential in the gaming market in Dara Sakor, which is one of the most rapidly developing districts in Cambodia and is a well-known tourism destination in Southeast Asia.
“The New Casino at Dara Sakor is planned to be surrounded by luxury hotel resorts and a golf course. In addition, the new international airport close to the New Casino could also help attract visitors.”
