The Great Blue Heron Casino in Ontario, Canada plans to open a new, four-story 116-room hotel in July 2020 about 44 miles west of Peterborough.
Blue Heron Food and Beverage Manager Glenn Mulhall told the Port Perry Star “It’s well under construction.” The work began earlier this spring after being announced January 2018. The plans included, besides a 100-room hotel south of the casino, a 20,000-foot addition to the casino to allow for more slots and tables.
The hotel project is an enterprise of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, which first opened its casino in 1997. Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) took over management of the casino from the tribe in September 2016. A year later OLG announced that Ontario Gaming GTA LP had secured the rights to operate the casino and others for at least 22 years as part of its successful bid for the GTA Bundle.
Ontario Gaming GTA LP is a consortium of Great Canadian Gaming, and Brookfield Business Partners. The partnership is providing the investment capital to expand and upgrade the casinos in the Bundle.
