Canadian Casino Proposes Move to Hotel

The Jackpot Casino in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada has applied to move from its current location into the Cambridge Hotel.

The casino said it has outgrown its space downtown and wants to relocate at the hotel to create a casino resort. The O’Chiese Band own both casino and hotel.

The Red Deer city council at its last meeting took a neutral stand on whether to support the application, which was made to Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC). The motion the council supported was that it “neither objects nor supports the possible relocation.”

The city added, “At this time, the proposed casino relocation is not a city issue as no formal request regarding land use or licensing has been submitted by Jackpot Casino.

A period for public comment to be made to the AGLC about the move ended May 2. The agency expects to make a decision about relocating the casino later in 2022.
