Canadian Football League Partners with FanDuel

The Canadian Football League announced last week that it had signed a partnership deal with FanDuel to make it the league’s exclusive sportsbook.

The Canadian Football League (CFL) announced that FanDuel was its first “authorized” gaming operator and sportsbook partner. Terms of the deal were not immediately known.

The partnership allows FanDuel the ability to offer Ontarians in-game player prop bets such as anytime touchdown scorer, passing, and rushing and receiving yardage. Bettors will also be able to place future bets on the CFL including the winner of the league’s championship, the Grey Cup.

Dale Hooper, general manager of FanDuel Canada, said in a statement the company is excited to be in a partnership with the CFL.

“We are very proud to kick off our partnership with the CFL, a league with some of Canada’s most passionate fans,” Hooper said. “The CFL is a Canadian institution, and we are excited to provide sports bettors with industry-leading experience. We look forward to working with the CFL and TSN to continue to drive interest in this great league and the next generation of stars by contributing insights that add another element to the great storytelling that is taking place.”

Tyler Mazereeuw, chief commercial officer of the CFL, said in a statement on the league’s website that partnering with FanDuel will allow Canadians the ability to wager with a legitimate sportsbook.

“Responsible sports wagering is another way for our league to further its connection with our fans. In addition to taking in our fun, fast, and entertaining brand of football, some fans may wish to engage with the game on a more personal level,” Mazereeuw said. “We’re excited to work with FanDuel to deliver an exciting and innovative betting experience. While opening this new avenue of fandom is important to our league, wagering should only be done responsibly by adult fans who are 19 years of age and over with the means to do so.”

The CFL had a similar deal with BetRegal but the company was not licensed in Ontario. The deal with the CFL ended last year so it gave the league the opportunity to sign with FanDuel. BetRegal does still have deals with the CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Hamilton Tiger Cats.
