Loto Quebec will begin reopening the Canadian province’s casinos on Thursday, July 16, but fewer patrons combined with social distancing will require half of the casinos’ workforce to be let go, more than 2,200 workers, effective July 21, the firm stated.
Workers who survive the culling will have reduced schedules and frozen salaries. The Trois-Rivieres and Mont Tremblant casinos will open July 16, followed by Casino Montreal on August 3.
Patrons will be limited at Casino Montreal, and they will need to reserve their visitation times online. Masks will be required. Table games will limit the number of players, and slot players will be issued rubber pens so their fingers don’t touch the machines. All the casinos will have reduced hours, and bars will be closed.
In Saskatchewan, casinos, bingo halls and live entertainment venues will be allowed to reopen on July 9 as part of the Phase 4 reopening. Racetracks and rodeos will follow on July 16.
