Star Entertainment said it’s been cleared by the government of New South Wales (NSW) to increase capacity from just 1,800 to 10,000 guests at its flagship casino resort, the Star Sydney.
The relaxed rules come as new cases of Covid-19 largely have been reduced across Australia to those undergoing hotel quarantine. They include new rules issued by the NSW government allowing hospitality venues to effectively double their capacity, from one person per four square meters of floor area (43 square feet) to one person per two square meters.
In Queensland, Star’s other market, the borders have reopened to visitors from Sydney and Victoria, and the state likewise has adopted the two-square-meter limit.
Social distancing limits remain in effect on the slot floor in Sydney, but Queensland has eased its capacity limits and is allowing the Star Gold Coast and Treasury Brisbane to operate their full complement of machines and increase seating at table games from four players to seven.
“The easing in operating restrictions across all three properties will enable us to welcome back additional employees as well as an increased number of our members and guests to safe and entertaining environments,” Star said.
