Casino companies showed their heart last week when they worked to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Houston.
Team members at Sky Ute Casino Resort in Ignacio, Colorado spent Labor Day weekend collecting hundreds of pounds of needed supplies including toiletries, non-perishable food, diapers, clothing and more to aid victims of Hurricane Harvey. The donations exclusively were made by employees at Sky Ute and tribal businesses.
General Manager Intern Krista Red-Garcia said, “Our hearts go out to the people of Texas affected by the devastating flooding. It was a team effort, driven by the employees’ desire to help those most in need. I couldn’t be prouder for the efforts of the team, as well as our department team leaders.”
Red-Garcia said all of the donations were sorted and repackaged, and shipped by truck to Houston for delivery at the Houston Diaper Bank, the United Way of Houston and the Food Bank of Corpus Christi.
And in Nevada, PT’s Entertainment Group, a division of Golden Entertainment, Inc. and Nevada’s largest tavern operator, will present a check for $20,000 to the Greater Houston Community Foundation to benefit those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Through the “Hops for Houston” campaign, a portion of the proceeds from sales of PT’s Brewing Company craft beer over a 10-day period was set aside for the relief effort. The company donated money through social media “likes” of the program.
The program exceeded the $10,000 goal and raised $12,596. PTEG rounded up the total donation to $20,000. Greater Houston Community Foundation is housing a hurricane relief fund established by Houston’s mayor for the victims of the natural disaster.
Mariela Argueta, a graphic designer for Golden Entertainment’s marketing department, came up with the idea for the fundraiser.
