Casino Permit Granted In Great Falls

The River City Casino, which was demolished in June 2012, recently received a conditional use permit to re-open in Great Falls, Montana. The special permit was required since the casino would be located less than 600 feet from a Catholic church.

The city commission of Great Falls, Montana recently voted 5-0 to approve a conditional use permit allowing River City Casino to re-open. The conditional use permit was required since the proposed casino is within 600 feet of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. The casino previously located on the site was demolished in June 2012, before the code was changed.

The zoning commission and design review board have approved the project, which awaits building permits from the city planning department. City officials said the proposed casino is consistent with the 2013 City Growth Policy Update which requires it to be infill development, redevelop underutilized land and eliminate blight, and promote economic development.

Under the conditional use permit, the casino would not be allowed to use the word “casino” on certain signs not put up LED reader board-style signs.
