Casino Plans Leaked Before Council Meeting

The Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, southern California, will soon begin a major upgrade, including a 300-room hotel, country club and golf course. Officials of the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians say it will make the casino more competitive with other Southern California casino resorts.

Twenty years after opening, Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, California, is planning on a major upgrade, including moving the facility several miles onto a recently purchased 535 acres.

The facility, owned and operated by the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians will include 729,000 square feet of new space, including a 300-room, five-story hotel, country club and golf course. Plans also include a tribal fire station, convenience store/gas station, fitness center, arena and convention center. There will also be retail shops and dining.

The casino won’t increase in the number of slot machines or tables. According to the tribe, the reason for the move is a better location, which will, it says, enable it to compete more effectively against existing casinos in the area, such as Pechanga, Fantasy Springs and Agua Caliente.

No word yet on when groundbreaking will be on when construction will begin.
