Melco Cyprus envisions that building a successful casino industry on the island could help turn the island into a global tourist destination, says Grant Johnson, senior vice president of casino sales and marketing for Melco.
Melco Cyprus’s $630 million City of Dreams Mediterranean integrated resort is expected to open this summer.
He was speaking at an event noting the fifth anniversary of the first licensed casino on the island. His comments were reported by the Cyprus Mail, which also noted that the event honored the first 578 employees to work for the company with commemorative plaques.
Hong Kong-based Melco International Casino also announced, “Melco Cyprus is managing the temporary casino in Limassol and three satellite casinos in Nicosia, Ayia Napa and Paphos, while at the same time developing the City of Dreams Mediterranean resort-casino, a project that aspires to be a game-changer in the island’s tourism industry.”
The National Herald reported that the company hopes to attract 300,000 visitors a year to the City of Dreams.
Noting that the company is one of the largest employers on the island, Johnson added, “Five years ago, City of Dreams Mediterranean was a distant dream, but now we are just months away from opening.” He continued, “You have helped us grow this organization and another 2,500 colleagues will soon join our team and follow in your footsteps.”
The executive concluded, “Melco Cyprus is aware of its important role in the development of the tourism industry and we will work tirelessly to ensure that the country emerges as a global tourist, entertainment and business destination.”
