Casinos Send Lobsters into Battle

Lobsters are the succulent weapons in a battle between San Diego area casinos for the hearts and stomachs of patrons. Some casinos offer all-you-can-eat lobster buffets, others spread lobster around their various restaurant offerings.

Casinos Send Lobsters into Battle

Indian casinos in San Diego have ramped up the competition and sent Maine lobsters into battle as their foot soldiers or maybe claw soldiers.

Valley View Casino in San Diego County, which was the original tribal casino to use Maine lobsters at its popular buffet as a lure, has found that the competition has ramped up, as rivals use the succulent crustaceans as, ahem, bait.

Now in the region where six of the ten casinos in Southern California are spending about $1 billion to upgrade, the battle to lure seafood lovers has taken on a life of its own.

And “war” is how Pechanga Resort & Casino characterized it recently when it unveiled its Thursday night “Lobster & Seafood Extravaganza” which will commence January 11.

A spokesman for Pechanga said that lobster specials have proven to be a powerful draw.

Besides Valley View, which has had the endless lobster buffet every night for many years, there is no Pala Casino Spa & Resort on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Viejas Casino & Resort every day but Friday.

Barona Resort & Casino now has “Lobster Wednesday” with lobster dishes at all of the 11 restaurants at the resort.

Pechanga is considering following suit at its 13 restaurants.
