Casinos Uruguay to Open on Brazil Border

A new gaming hall will open later this year in the Uruguayan city of Rio Branco on the border with Brazil. The casino will be located inside a large local shopping center.

Casinos de Uruguay has confirmed that a new gaming hall will open this year in a shopping center being built by Duty-Free Americas Uruguay in Rio Branco, on the border with Jaguarão, Brazil.

General Manager Andrés Mendelsohn said the project is “very important for Rio Branco, because it is the closest point between Pelotas (Uruguay) and Porto Alegre (Brazil), two cities with a large population in the region.” The total investment for Phase I is US$36 million. The DFA mall will include 12 stores, a food court and a bus terminal. A hotel may be added in Phase II.
