The Catawba Two Kings Casino in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, could open as early as July 1. The “prelaunch facility” is made up of 23 prefabricated buildings merged into a single unit. The structure will be taken down when construction of the new casino is complete, according to Chuck Kilroy, a consultant for developers Delaware North.
Kilroy said the 29,000-square-foot temporary venue will be open 24 hours a day and offer 500 slot machines. The parking lot holds 650 vehicles and valet service will be provided. A snack bar and food trucks will be available. Smoking will not be permitted indoors.
About 260 people work at the casino, Kilroy said. Many were hired during a two-day job fair held earlier this month. Most are being trained now, he said, but several recently received further training at a facility in Virginia so they’ll have some experience on opening day. “The people that work in casinos are real people who go home, they coach little league and they lead Girl Scout troops,” Kilroy stated.
As soon as the venue opens, construction will start on the first permanent buildings. The next-phase casino ultimately will feature 1,360 slot machines and include a 5-story parking deck. The final phase of the $273 million investment will include another structure with 5,000 slots, table games, a hotel and a resort. Kilroy said the property will employ another 2,600 people.
